I love a classy, moody wedding, and that’s exactly what this Meridian House wedding was.
Meridian House is nestled right in Washington DC, tucked away to create an intimate hideaway fit for gorgeous, classy weddings. With ample indoor/outdoor space, it’s a great venue with a rain plan, gorgeous year-round in any type of DC weather. One of my favorite indoor features is the winding red velvet staircase, perfect for dramatic and editorial portraits. The exterior areas are just as ethereal, with Grecian-inspired statues, manicured gardens and hedges, a courtyard and fountain. There’s something to discover every turn you take, and it’s the perfect place for a wedding, in my humble opinion!
Natasha and Max’s wedding day was nothing short of an absolute vision. Natasha chose to have her bridesmaids dress in espresso brown bridesmaids dresses, and the brown satin reflected the light beautifully. Max and his groomsmen wore black tuxes that matched well with such a classy venue. With a black tie dress code, every guest looked incredible and was so much fun to photograph.
The day began with intimate moments getting ready with close family, followed by portraits with each side of the wedding party. Natasha and Max opted for the classic wedding structure of not seeing each other until they walk down the aisle and the ceremony was held outside of Meridian House in the garden, surrounded by beautiful greenery and fresh air. Once the ceremony ended, we stayed in the gardens to take some editorial wedding photos, including a full bridal party photo and creative newlywed portraits. Cocktail hour featured a live violinist and specialty cocktails served by Spilled Milk Catering. First dances took place on the elevated patio, and then the reception dinner commenced indoors where the guests listened to heartfelt toasts to the newlyweds! The night ended with cake cutting and espresso martinis – perfect to match the espresso brown color palette of the wedding.
As a local DC wedding photographer, Meridian House is one of my favorite venues to photograph for so many reasons. Each space is so different, yet blends so seamlessly together to offer a truly lovely wedding venue for any couple. It’s so exciting seeing how each couple’s personalities compliment the venue. I will never get tired of that as a wedding photographer!
I loved capturing this classy wedding with a mix of direct flash for portraits and candids, ambient lighting for more intimate moments, and perfectly balanced natural lighting outdoors. The weather was absolutely gorgeous and it was so fun to get creative and document the day as it went on, and I’m grateful to Natasha and Max for putting their full trust in me to capture the day through my creative lens.
